The Everest View Trek is a rewarding short trek in the Everest region, ideal for those who wish to experience the magic of the Himalayas without going all the way to Everest Base Camp. This scenic journey offers breathtaking views of the world’s tallest peaks including Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Thamserku along with a deep dive into Sherpa culture and Himalayan life. Typically lasting 10 to 12 days, including arrival and departure days, this trek is perfect for travelers with limited time who still want a memorable high-altitude experience.

From the moment your trek begins, you’ll be surrounded by lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and peaceful mountain villages. But the real highlight is the view standing on a ridge with Everest towering in front of you is an experience that words can hardly capture.

The trail passes through authentic Sherpa villages, where you can interact with the locals, visit centuries-old monasteries, and learn about the traditions of a people renowned for their resilience, warmth, and mountaineering legacy.

This bustling Himalayan town is a hub for trekkers and climbers alike. Perched at 3,440 meters, Namche Bazaar is the perfect place to acclimatize, enjoy local Sherpa cuisine, visit the Sherpa Culture Museum, and shop for handmade souvenirs.

The Everest View Trek is considered moderate. Most days involve 4 to 6 hours of walking, with a mix of gentle ascents and descents. You don’t need previous trekking experience, but being in good physical shape will help you enjoy the journey more. A bit of preparation such as regular walks or hikes before your trip is highly recommended.

Permits Required

To complete this trek, you’ll need the following permits:

Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit

These can be arranged either in Kathmandu or upon arrival in Lukla.

Day 1 :

Drive to Ramechhap, Fly to Lukla & Trek to Phakding (2,610m)

Your journey begins early with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap, followed by a thrilling mountain flight to Lukla. Upon arrival, meet your trekking team and begin your adventure. Today’s trek is a gentle descent through pine forests and traditional Sherpa settlements along the Dudh Koshi River, leading you to the peaceful village of Phakding.

Day 2 :

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Follow the Dudh Koshi River upstream, crossing several suspension bridges including the iconic Hillary Bridge. The trail gradually climbs through forests of rhododendron and pine as you enter Sagarmatha National Park. A final steep ascent brings you to Namche Bazaar, the bustling heart of the Khumbu region.

Day 3 :

Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Spend the day in Namche to acclimatize to the higher altitude. Enjoy a side hike to Everest View Hotel for panoramic vistas of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and explore local markets for a glimpse into the unique highland lifestyle.

Day 4 :

Trek to Tengboche (3,867m)

Trek through alpine forests and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The trail includes both ascents and descents before reaching Tengboche, home to the region’s largest and most sacred Buddhist monastery. If timing allows, join the evening prayer ceremony for a spiritual experience.

Day 5 :

Trek to Khumjung (3,790m)

Descend gently to the beautiful village of Khumjung, nestled beneath sacred Khumbila Mountain. Visit the Khumjung Hillary School, founded by Sir Edmund Hillary, and interact with locals to learn more about Sherpa culture and daily life in the mountains.

Day 6 :

Trek to Monjo (2,835m)

Begin your descent, retracing the trail back through Namche Bazaar. Continue downhill toward Monjo, located just outside Sagarmatha National Park. This peaceful village is a great spot to rest and reflect on the journey so far.

Trek to Lukla (2,840m)

Fly to Ramechhap & Drive Back to Kathmandu

Catch an early morning flight from Lukla to Ramechhap, followed by a drive back to Kathmandu. Once in the city, enjoy a well-earned rest or explore the vibrant streets of Thamel. In the evening, celebrate your trek with a special farewell dinner featuring traditional Nepali cuisine and a cultural performance.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
